At a recent anti-bullying ADL reception attended by many Hartford area residents, we had the opportunity to meet Dr. Yusra Anwar, whose family, originally from Pakistan, was being honored at the event. She and her husband, Dr. Saud Anwar are instrumental in helping many Muslim families relocate to CT, and we were anxious to make their acquaintance, hoping that they could help us bring Eman to the Hartford area and find suitable housing. Yusra introduced us to Catholic Charities of Hartford. Catholic Charities Migration, Refugee and Immigration Services welcomes refugees who have been forced to leave their countries due to warfare, national disaster, and/or political and religious persecution. They provide comprehensive resettlement services designed to facilitate the refugees' acculturation into their new life of freedom here in the United States and to assist them to become self-sufficient members of society. We want to make certain that when we find a place for Eman in the Hartford area, where she is comfortable with her surroundings. Catholic Charities has helped other families from Iraq resettle in the Hartford County area, and they have assured us that they will help us find living arrangements for Eman in an area where she will be with others from her home country.
